Certification Exam Training

The Maine Chapter's prep course for people planning to take the Project Management Professional Certification Examination is designed and delivered by PMI Maine members who have earned the certification. Maine PMI's prep course covers three areas:

  • The PMP Exam contents and approach,
  • How to apply for the exam and prepare for it, and
  • The PMBOK Guide and supporting information.

The Project Management Institute establishes standards for taking the exam, and requires a complex resume to establish the applicant's credentials as a Project Manager. The exam itself is computerized, consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions, mostly in the PMBOK Guide's nine Project Management knowledge areas: Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resource, Communications, Risk and Procurement Planning. The guide identifies 39 processes in those knowledge areas.  (Purchase a copy of the Guide at the PMI Bookstore or borrow a copy from the local chapter library.)

The exam is administered to the individual at the Sylvan Learning Center once the person's application for the exam is accepted by PMI and both applicant and Sylvan are notified.

The PMI Maine 3-day course walks participants through exam application and preparation as well as simulated exams and the material the exams are based upon.

Further information about PMI Maine's PMP prep course is available from Mike Curran (PMP-Prep@pmimaine.org).

The course is presently alternately at the University of Southern Maine (registration at 780-5900) and the University of New England (registration at 221-4343).
